This company is a real combinación grande. Real Mex Restaurants operates and franchises more than 220 Mexican restaurants in California and more than a dozen other states. Its flagship El Torito chain has about 80 locations offering full-service Mexican dining, while its chain of about 100 Chevys Fresh Mex (operated through Chevys Restaurants) provide a more laid-back, Cantina atmosphere. Real Mex also operates more than 30 full-service Acapulco restaurants featuring California-Mexican cuisine. Smaller concepts include Casa Gallardo and Las Brisas. About 190 of the restaurants are company-owned. Real Mex is owned by private equity firm Sun Capital Partners.
