One man's steel scrap is Cascade's raw material. Cascade Steel Rolling Mills, which comprises the steel manufacturing business of Schnitzer Steel Industries, uses its electric arc furnace minimill to turn scrap metal into steel rebar, merchant bar, and wire rod. Schnitzer Steel's recycling operations provide Cascade with an ample supply of scrap. Rebar and wire rod account for about 85% of Cascade's finished steel shipments, of which it produces about 800,000 tons annually. The company's rebar and merchant bar are used in all manner of construction; its wire rod is sold to the wire drawing industry. Cascade Steel's manufacturing facility is in Oregon, and it operates two distribution facilitites in California.
