Freescale Semiconductor just wants to be free. Once the semiconductor products business of the former Motorola, Inc., the company is one of the oldest makers of microchips in the world. It produces a diverse range of chips for use in automobiles, computers, industrial equipment, wireless communications and networking gear, and consumer products. The company's global client roster has included such blue-chip companies as Alcatel-Lucent, Continental Automotive, DENSO, Huawei, Cisco Systems, Fujitsu, Nokia Siemens Networks, Research in Motion, and Valeo. Freescale Semiconductor is a subsidiary of Freescale Semiconductor Holdings I, which went public in 2011.
