Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America (TEMA) is the epicenter of Toyota Motor's ever-encroaching dominance in the North American car market. TEMA is responsible for engineering design, research and development, and manufacturing activities in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Formerly Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, TEMA develops the upper body portion, as well as parts, for the adaptation of Toyota vehicles to the North American market. Toyota Research Institute of North America (TRI-NA) conducts automotive research relating to energy and environment. TEMA has 14 manufacturing plants located throughout North America.
