If you're transporting refined petroleum products, it's OK to go by K-Sea. K-Sea Transportation operates a fleet of about 75 tank barges and about 65 tugboats to propel them. Overall, the company's fleet has a carrying capacity of about 4.4 million barrels. K-Sea serves major oil companies, refiners, and oil traders, primarily along the east and west coasts of the US. About 80% of its business comes from one-year or longer contracts; major customers include BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Exxon Mobil, and Tesoro. Investment funds managed by Jefferies Capital Partners, an affiliate of Jefferies Group, own K-Sea's general partner, which manages the company's operations.
