Direct Merchants Credit Card Bank is a division of HSBC Card Services. This bank does not accept deposits, though. Doing business as Direct Merchants Bank, the company is a leading issuer of unsecured MasterCard credit cards, including co-branded and affinity cards. It also offers Visa cards and ancillary services such as account protection programs in addition to selling insurance offered by third-party providers. Direct Merchants Bank became a unit of HSBC Card Services after its former parent, Metris Companies, was bought by the consumer finance arm of British financial services bigwig HSBC in 2005.
