Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) is where you want to be cared for after a serious accident or illness. The 724-bed hospital is the Level I Shock Trauma Center for the five-state region surrounding Pittsburgh. AGH offers traditional medical and surgical services as well as cardiology care and organ transplants. The hospital also is engaged in research in areas such as neuroscience, oncology, trauma, and genetics. AGH, which treats more than 31,000 patients each year, has about 1,000 physicians on its staff. The hospital, which is affiliated with Philadelphia's Drexel University College of Medicine, is a subsidiary of West Penn Allegheny Health System.
