Alegent Health has pledged its allegiance to the residents of the Midwest. The not-for-profit health care system operates nine acute care hospitals in Omaha and surrounding communities in northeastern Nebraska and southwestern Iowa. At the heart of the vast network of acute care facilities, outpatient centers, and primary care clinics that comprise Alegent Health are its two main Omaha hospitals -- Bergan Mercy Medical Center (with 400 beds) and Immanuel Medical Center (360 beds). The health system has a total of more than 1,800 beds and provides general and specialized medical care from birth to old age, in specialties including cardiovascular disease, orthopedics, oncology, rehabilitation, and mental health.
