For Enzo Biochem, antisense is perfectly sensible. The biotech company's Enzo Therapeutics subsidiary is developing antisense technology, a kind of gene therapy that switches off disease-causing genes, to fight such diseases as HIV, hepatitis, and Crohn's disease. This work is funded by two other subsidiaries. Enzo Clinical Labs provides diagnostic testing services in the New York City area. And Enzo Life Sciences makes reagents used by pharmaceutical and biotech companies, as well as academic institutions, in biomedical research. Enzo Biochem has collaborative partnerships with academic and research centers such as the University of Connecticut and the Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem.
