Driver-Harris has walked the business high wire for over a century. An electrical wire and cable maker, the firm produces insulated electrical, thermocouple, and fire resistance wire. Subsidiary Irish Driver-Harris (IDH) specializes in the manufacture of insulated electrical cable. Driver-Harris sells to the construction, appliance, and electrical equipment industries; its customers include global distributors, wholesalers, and OEMs. Former jewelry salesman and bicycle shop manager Frank Driver joined his brother Wilbur and wire drawer Francis Harris to form the company in 1900; IDH was founded in 1934. Driver-Harris' 2003 bankruptcy protection plan was approved in 2006.
