You might say this restaurant company has doubled down on the beef. Formerly Triarc Companies, Wendy's/Arby's Group operates two leading fast-food chains, Wendy's and Arby's, specializing in burgers and roast beef, respectively. Wendy's is the #3 hamburger chain behind McDonald's and Burger King, with more than 6,600 locations in the US and 21 other countries. Arby's, with more than 3,700 units, trails only Subway and Quiznos as one of the largest sandwich outlets. Combined, Wendy's/Arby's Group has more than 10,000 restaurants; about three-fourths of the units are franchised. Chairman Nelson Peltz and vice chairman Peter May together own more than 20% of the company through investment firm Trian Partners.
