Champion Enterprises is one of the largest builders of manufactured homes in the US, along with rival Palm Harbor. The company makes single-family ranch-style homes, as well as townhouses, duplexes, and steel-framed modular buildings for commercial use. It sells about 11,000 homes annually. Sizes range from 400 sq. ft. to 4,000 sq. ft. and retail prices of the homes range from $25,000 to more than $200,000 (averaging $160,000). Its homes are sold through more than a dozen company-owned retail centers in California and through about 1,200 independent retailers, including 725 Champion Home Centers. Champion Enterprises voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2009.
