The road to just about everywhere is paved with Vulcan Materials' aggregates. The company is the largest producer of construction aggregates -- crushed stone, gravel, and sand -- in the US. Vulcan produces aggregates, asphalt mixes, and ready-mixed concrete at more than 300 production plants in the US (primarily the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic) and Mexico. A majority of its aggregates are used to build and maintain highways, bridges, and other public works systems; they're also used in residential, commercial, and industrial building construction. Aggregates account for about 75% of Vulcan Materials' sales. The company formerly operated a chemicals business but divested it to focus on construction aggregates.
