Customers don't turn to General Communication, Inc. (GCI) for its catchy name, but through its operating subsidiaries, the company provides them with facilities-based phone services to about 90,000 long-distance customers and 80,000 local callers in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau, Alaska. The competitive local-exchange carrier is also Alaska's leading cable TV provider, with more than 132,000 basic cable subscribers; it provides wireless services to 100,000-plus customers through a partnership with AT&T Mobility. Other services include dial-up and cable Internet access.
