Sara Lee chose cheesecake over clothing. Jettisoning the apparel business, Sara Lee now peddles mostly food and drink, along with some household goods, although it's selling off that business too. Its North American Retail unit is a major packaged meat maker (Ball Park, Jimmy Dean), and a leading manufacturer of frozen bakery products, including Ms. Lee's famous raid-the-refrigerator-at-midnight frozen cheesecakes. The fresh bakery segment supplies North America with prepackaged bread and other baked goods. Sara Lee International oversees coffee, tea, and bakery in Europe, Australia, and Brazil. The North American Foodservice unit supplies coffee, meat, and bakery to foodservice operators across the continent.
