Citigroup Global Markets (CGMI) is the brokerage and securities arm of banking behemoth Citigroup. The company provides brokerage, investment banking, and asset management services to businesses, governments, and individuals. The investment bank expanded in Japan with its parent company's acquisition of a majority of Nikko Cordial in 2007; it has offices in major citiies in the Americas, Europe/Middle East/Africa, and Asia Pacific. CGMI has venerable antecedents -- it is the successor to Salomon Smith Barney and operates as Smith Barney Investments, among other brands.
