National City wants customers to think nationally, bank locally. National City operates about 1,300 bank branches in Ohio, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. Besides retail and corporate banking services, National City offers retail banking, corporate and small business banking, wealth management services, and mortgage banking. Its National Consumer Finance segment, which includes subsidiary National City Mortgage, originates and services consumer and housing loans. The company focuses on direct services, in which it has personal relationships with customers. PNC Financial Services acquired the troubled National City for some $5.6 billion in cash and stock in 2008.
