NL Industries hopes to paint a bright future through its minority-owned subsidiary, Kronos Worldwide. Kronos is among the world's largest suppliers of titanium dioxide (TiO2), which maximizes the whiteness, opacity, and brightness of paints, plastics, paper, fibers, and ceramics. The company produces more than 40 different grades of titanium dioxide, which it sells under the Kronos brand worldwide. NL also holds a majority stake in CompX, a manufacturer of office furniture components. The company's stakes in the two subsidiaries are 36% of Kronos and 87% of CompX. Valhi, which is controlled by Contran Corporation, owns 83% of NL Industries.
