Headquartered in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah Life Insurance is an insurance provider in more than 30 states, primarily in the eastern US. The company's main products are individual and group life insurance policies, including small business packages. Shenandoah Life also provides group dental, disability, and vision insurance; individual annuities; and supplemental Medicare coverage. As a mutual insurance company founded in 1914, Shenandoah Life is owned by its policyholders. Products have historically been sold through a network of independent brokers and agents. However, the company was placed into receivership by the state of Virginia in 2009 and has ceased issuing new policies.
