EMD Chemicals is a North American affiliate of German pharmaceutical giant Merck KGaA (not to be confused with American pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co.; they've been separate and unrelated since 1917). EMD Chemicals provides specialty chemicals for pharmaceutical, biotech, cosmetic, automotive, plastics, electronics, and other industrial applications. The company's Lab Chemicals business makes high purity chemicals and analytical reagents for laboratory aplications; its Life Science Solutions unit manufactures bulk ingredients for pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic producers; and the Industrial Pigments division produces effect pigments for coatings, cosmetics, and the automotive industry.
