Natural Selection Foods took root on a three-acre raspberry farm. Today it's a leading supplier of packaged organic salads to retailers nationwide. The company's products, which also include organic fruits and vegetables, are sold in more than two-thirds of US grocery stores under the Earthbound Farm, and other brand and private-label names. Natural Selection operates some 24,000 certified organic acres in the US (Arizona, California, Colorado, and Washington), Mexico, and New Zealand. In 2006 the California company recalled its fresh spinach and salad mixes containing spinach which were the subject of an FDA nationwide recall due to an outbreak of E. coli.
