Brick by brick, Hanson Brick & Tile has built itself into North America's largest brick maker. It has the capacity to churn out 1.7 billion bricks annually from about two dozen plants in the US (the Carolinas, Kentucky, Michigan, and Texas) and Canada (Ontario and Quebec). In 1999 Hanson Limited's US subsidiary Hanson Building Products North America acquired seven major brick makers: Boren Brick (North Carolina), Michigan Brick, Richtex Brick (South Carolina), Sipple Brick (Kentucky), U.S. Brick (Texas), Briqueterie St. Laurent (Quebec), and Canada Brick (Ontario). The companies were brought together in April 2003 as the Hanson Brick & Tile unit. Hanson's sister company Roof Tile makes concrete roof tiles.
