To be sentient is to be aware, and to be Sentient is to be aware of a market niche in private jet transportation. Unlike charter jet users, Sentient customers pay a membership fee in advance for guaranteed access to aircraft. But as opposed to fractional jet ownership, where customers buy a portion of a jet and then pay for flight expenses, Sentient member-customers pay for flight time only. Customers choose types of jets (light, midsize, heavy) rather than individual aircraft. The jets are flown by independent operators. Sentient is a unit of Sentient Jet Holdings, which in mid-2008 announced it was selling the company to an affiliate of Macquarie Group.
