The art house is the place to be for Sony Pictures Classics. The studio is the specialty film division of Columbia Tristar Motion Picture Group, which itself is a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment. It produces, acquires, and distributes upscale independent art films from all over the world, including Kung Fu Hustle; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Baadasssss; and "Talk to Her". The studio releases about 25 films a year, many of them foreign-language productions. A shrewd purchaser of films on the festival circuit, Sony Pictures Classics' films have won 23 Academy Awards. Sony formed the unit in 1992.
