Univar is a leader in the universe of chemical distributors. The company buys chemicals in bulk and blends and packs them for customers in the agricultural, chemicals, coatings, electronics, food and beverage, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, and water treatment industries. Univar also offers inventory management, custom labeling, custom packaging, waste management, warehouse management, and technical support services. The company serves about 250,000 industrial end-users through more than 200 distribution centers. It's active primarily in North America and Europe. In 2007 the company acquired CHEMCENTRAL for $650 million. Later that year CVC Capital Partners bought the formerly public Univar for $2 billion.
