The company produces glass yarns (thin filaments of glass twisted together to form yarn), which are used in aerospace, automotive, construction, defense, electronics, industrial, and recreational applications. Its products are differentiated by glass chemistry, coating technology, and product form. Branded products include E Glass, S-2 Glass, and CFM products. The US military outfits its Humvees and other armored vehicles with AGY's proprietary S-2 Glass hard armor composite panels. Private investment firm Kohlberg & Co. acquired AGY Holding in 2006.
