Got varicose veins? Diomed can zap them away with its EndoVenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) system, a minimally invasive procedure for varicose vein removal. The company sells the lasers, along with disposable procedure kits, to vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, and other specialists. It also provides training and marketing support for the procedure and, through an agreement with Luminetx, sells the VeinViewer vascular imaging system in some markets. Diomed sells its products directly in the US, the UK, and parts of Latin America; it relies on distributors elsewhere. The firm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2008 and agreed to sell its US and UK operations to rival AngioDynamics.
