Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) provides proxy voting and corporate governance services to around 2,750 institutional investors and corporations around the world. For institutional investors, the firm researches proxies and offers vote recommendations for some 35,000 securities a year. ISS also offers Web-based tools and research to help companies develop and analyze their governance policies and practices. Units of ISS specialize in services to labor unions and to investment managers who are implementing social investment strategies. RiskMetrics Group acquired ISS in 2007.
