Macy's Central operates about 240 department stores in about 20 states from Texas to Virginia and beyond. One of four regional divisions of the nation's #1 department store chain, Macy's, the stores sell designer and private-label apparel, as well as cosmetics, jewelry, and housewares. Macy's Central was formed by the consolidation of the Macy's South and Macy's Midwest divisions in early 2008 in an attempt to revive flagging sales and realize the fading promise of Macy's 2005 takeover of May Department Stores. Macy's Central is descended from the Rich's, Lazarus, and Goldsmith's department store chains, which vanished from the retail landscape when all the stores were renamed Macy's.
