Sluggish auto sales could be a little more than a bump in the road for DuPont Coatings and Color Technologies, one of DuPont's five business segments. It's the world's largest provider of automotive coatings and has large contracts with every US automaker (and many refinishers) to provide them with automotive finishes. DuPont Coatings also leads the world -- ahead of Tronox and Huntsman -- in the manufacture of titanium dioxide (TiO2 or tioxide), the most-used whitening pigment for plastics and paper. The unit has four divisions: Titanium Technologies (TiO2), Advanced Coatings (powder coatings), Refinish Systems (for the automotive aftermarket sector), and Automotive Systems (for auto OEMs).
