What becomes of the broken hearted? Myogen hopes to be part of the solution. Myogen develops drugs for cardiovascular diseases by targeting the genes, proteins, and signal pathways involved in heart muscle disease. The firm is focused on its two drug candidates for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension and resistant hypertension: abrisentan and darusentan. Abrisentan has gone through two Phase III clinical trials; Phase III trials for darusentan began in 2006. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has obtained the license to manufacture, distribute, and market abrisentan outside of the US. In return, Myogen received the rights to market and distribute GSK's Flolan (the patent is set to expire in 2006) in the US.
