What do you get when Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and D.W. Griffith get together and form a film company? United Artists (UA). Founded in 1919 by the four Hollywood legends, UA is now a unit of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), which acquired the company in 1981. UA is involved in the production, sale, and acquisition of smaller-budget films. The banner contributes well-known titles to MGM's film library, which includes the "Pink Panther", "Rocky", and "James Bond" franchises, as well as TV shows such as The Outer Limits and The Fugitive. In 2006 MGM gave control of UA to actor Tom Cruise and his then-business partner Paula Wagner. Wagner left the studio in 2008 in order to return to producing.
