What do you get when Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and D.W. Griffith get together and form a film company? United Artists (UA). Founded in 1919 by the four Hollywood legends, UA is now a unit of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), which acquired the company in 1981. UA is involved in the production, sale, and acquisition of art house and foreign films. The banner contributes well-known titles to MGM's film library, including the "Pink Panther", "Rocky", and "James Bond" franchises, as well as television shows such as thirtysomething, The Outer Limits, and The Fugitive. In 2006 MGM gave control of the company to actor Tom Cruise and his business partner, producer Paula Wagner, who now runs the studio.
