ADT Security Services has come a long way since it was founded as American District Telegraph in 1874. ADT provides services such as fire protection, access control, alarm monitoring, medical alert system monitoring, video surveillance, and intrusion detection. The security services company has commercial, residential, and government customers in North America. All total, it has sales and service offices in some 200 communities throughout North America. The company offers services to certain residential customers through its authorized dealer network. ADT Security Services is part of ADT Worldwide, itself a unit of conglomerate Tyco International.
