Whether you're citified or country-fried, CitiFinancial wants to help you build that deck or fix your old clunker. A consumer lending subsidiary of Citigroup, CitiFinancial offers personal loans for debt consolidation, home improvements, vacations, and unexpected expenses such as car repairs and medical bills, through more than 2,000 locations in North America. The company also writes home equity, mortgage, and refinance loans. Founded in 1912 as Commercial Credit, the company was bought by former Citigroup chairman and CEO Sandy Weill in 1986. Weill, who retired in 2006, used the acquisition as a springboard to build what eventually grew into Citigroup.
