Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) is mounting a raid on the data storage market. A subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd., HDS contends with the likes of EMC and IBM in the market for high-end RAID (redundant array of independent disks) storage devices and software. Its storage systems range in size from PC-sized units to cabinet systems that can manage hundreds of millions of gigabytes of data. The company also sells network-attached storage (NAS) servers, as well as storage networking products. Its software portfolio encompasses backup and recovery, content archiving, replication, and storage resource management applications. HDS, which does business in some 100 countries, also offers training, support, and financing services.
