Cancer patients will hopefully get a helpful shot in the arm thanks to Abraxis BioScience. The company's oncology and research division is developing a line of injectable drugs starting with Abraxane, its patented nanoparticle version of cancer drug paclitaxel. Abraxis BioScience is working to quickly develop a market for Abraxane, which is approved for use in the treatment of metastatic breast cancer. The drug is approved for marketing in about 35 countries and available in nine; the company is working to get it on the market in others. It often works with local partners to sell the drug in global markets. Abraxis owns manufacturing and development facilities in the US, Puerto Rico, and Switzerland.
