Once as independent as its founder, Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Mobile Telecoms is part of Virgin Media. The mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) partners with other carriers to resell wireless service under the Virgin brand. Virgin Mobile Telecoms is the principal operating business of holding company Virgin Mobile Holding (UK). In the UK Virgin Mobile uses T-Mobile's network to serve about 4 million customers with mobile communications services. It also offers services down under through an agreement with Australia's Optus. Virgin Mobile Telecoms was originally the holding company for these partnerships, but the IPO by the UK-based company and subsequent reorganization repositioned it as the operating company.
