AOL UK knows that Americans aren't the only ones who think being online is AOK. The former UK operating subsidiary of US-based AOL was a leading Internet service provider with more than 2 million subscribers prior to selling its Internet access business to Carphone Warehouse in early 2007. The deal was valued at approximately $690 million. Parent company AOL has been getting rid of European Internet access businesses in order to focus on driving traffic to its ad-supported Web sites. Similarly, AOL UK is now focused on providing content and managing online advertising. America Online originally launched its UK service in 1996.
