AWD Holding's business model is by no means flAWeD. Operating as AWD Group, the company provides customized investment and retirement planning services to primarily wealthy individuals in Europe. It has more than 6,000 advisors serving more than 2 million clients; offerings include pensions, life insurance, mortgages, and other investment and insurance products. AWD Group is primarily active in Germany (about half of all sales), Austria, Switzerland, and the UK. It has also expanded into markets in Central and Eastern Europe and has set its sights on other markets, including China. Majority owner Swiss Life increased its stake in AWD to 97% in late 2008 and plans to take full ownership in 2009.
