Call it high street meets home improvement. Homebase is a top do-it-yourself home and garden supply superstore chains primarily based in the UK. Bathroom and kitchen fixtures, flooring, and tools are available at Homebase's 345 stores spanning the UK and the Republic of Ireland. The chain also carries appliances, conservatories, consumer electronics, a fashion home furnishings line called miHome, gifts, and lighting. Since its founding in 1979 and the opening of the first Homebase store in Surrey in 1981, the company has endured several ownership changes, such as its demerger from GUS when that company spun off its Home Retail Group (formerly Argos Retail Group) unit in 2006 as a publicly-traded company.
