Seattle Genetics is working on monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) to treat a variety of cancers and autoimmune diseases. It is developing MAbs potent enough to fight cancer on their own, as well as those used in combination with other drugs. One of its lead candidates, SGN-40, uses a genetically engineered antibody targeted to treat non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and leukemia. Genentech holds SGN-40's worldwide marketing rights. Other candidates use antibodies to target antigens in solid tumors. The company's second technology, focused on antibody-drug conjugates (ADC), has been licensed by several drug makers -- including Bayer, CuraGen, MedImmune, and Progenics -- to develop new cancer therapies.
