MicroDisplay manufactures liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) display panels for HDTVs. The company has developed LCoS microdisplays, microdisplay controllers, and numerous liquid crystal modes in its Liquid Fidelity product line. MicroDisplay was established in 1995 as a spinoff from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Investors in the company include 2M Technology Ventures, August Capital, BlueRun Ventures, Mobius Venture Capital, and SAIF Partners. MicroDisplay was about to begin building large-screen, rear-projection HDTV systems, using a Mexican contract electronics manufacturer, but a lack of orders caused MicroDisplay to set plans to shut down and to possibly sell its intellectual property.
