Aerogen wants you to breathe your medicine. The company makes pulmonary drug delivery systems, which deliver drugs in aerosol form directly to the lungs to treat respiratory diseases, and to the bloodstream via the lungs to treat non-respiratory diseases. AeroGen intends to make products to treat a variety of conditions, but is initially focused on asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and cystic fibrosis. The company is also developing Aerodose, an inhaler that delivers insulin. The development-stage company's only marketed product is a portable nebulizer called the Aeroneb. Nektar Therapeutics acquired Aerogen in late 2005.
