Zeltia is fishing for a cure for cancer. One of its biotech subsidiaries, PharmaMar, develops tumor-fighting compounds from a library of thousands of marine organisms. PharmaMar's Yondelis has received approval in several European Union countries to treat soft-tissue sarcoma and is being studied for use with other cancers. Other biotech subsidiaries include Genomica (molecular diagnostics and DNA testing), Sylentis (therapeutic approaches based on gene silencing), and Noscira (drugs for nervous system diseases). Its chemical unit makes household cleansers (Zelnova) and paints and wood protection products (Xylazel). Chairman Jose María Fernández's family founded Zeltia in 1939. He holds 14% of the company.
