Nuffield Hospitals is a private, not-for-profit network of independent, acute-care hospitals in the UK. The company (formerly Nuffield Nursing Homes Trust) is run as a registered charity, operating outside the National Health Service. It runs about 40 private hospitals as well as a nursing home. Patients pay for treatment either through insurance policies, through contracts with the NHS, or directly when they must. Direct-paying patients are a particular growth area for the group, which offers a fixed price for some treatments and access to medical loans. Nuffield Hospitals also offers a private health screening service for men and women at all of their hospitals and at a number of other sites.
