Frank Sytner was once a champion at racing cars; then he tried to be a champion at selling them. Founded by former chairman Sytner (who won the British Touring Car Championship) and his brother in the 1960s, Sytner Group, now a subsidiary of Penske Automotive Group, operates more than 100 dealerships representing 24 different manufacturers in the UK. Sytner distributes BMW's Alpina racing line and also sells such high-cachet nameplates as Ferrari, Jaguar, Lexus, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Rolls-Royce, and Porsche. In addition to selling expensive cars, Sytner offers repair, parts, and body shop services. Penske Automotive, the US's #2 auto dealer behind AutoNation, acquired Sytner in 2002.
