InforMax's bioinformatics software helps customers wring a lot of information out of a little data. Research organizations, universities, and drug developers use the company's GenoMax and Vector NTI systems to organize, analyze, and interpret DNA sequences and protein functions; such information can also be used to improve industrial processes, diagnose diseases, and enhance agricultural production. InforMax's customers include such biotechnology and pharmaceutical firms as Merck, Genzyme, and Pfizer. Invitrogen bought InforMax to expand its genomics product line.
