A company so nice they named it twice is doubling its efforts to deliver power. NRG Energy, a leading power producer with an operational generating capacity of more than 24,000 MW, is moving onward and upward. The vast majority of NRG's power plants are in North America, but it also has one in Australia and two in Germany. The company's global portfolio includes 189 generation units at 48 power plants. It also markets natural gas, oil, and other commodities and invests in district heating and cooling and alternative energy projects. In 2008, in a move to expand its geographic reach, Exelon made a $6.2 billion bid to acquire NRG, but NRG rebuffed the offer as inadequate, and in 2009 Exelon withdrew its bid.
