BUPA (British United Provident Association) is the UK's leading private medical insurer, providing health care coverage and life insurance for millions of people in the UK itself, and several million more through its international operations, which include Spanish health care organization Sanitas. In the UK, BUPA runs health screening centers, several hundred retirement and nursing homes, and one hospital. It is also in the child care market, operating about four dozen Teddies Nurseries child care centers across the UK. The company has sold its hospital network to private equity firm Cinven and its worksite child care business (separate from Teddies Nurseries) to UK nursery operator Family Care Company.
