Kinder Morgan, Inc. Company Profile
Kinder Morgan (formerly Knight) pipes in profits by operating 36,000 miles of natural gas pipelines in the US and Canada. The company also distributes natural gas to more than 1.1 million customers, primarily in the Midwest, and it operates gas-fired power plants along its pipelines. Through Kinder Morgan Management, it controls Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, which transports refined products and operates 170 terminals that handle coal, petroleum coke, and other materials. In 2007 chairman and CEO Richard Kinder, who owns 31% of the company, led a group of investors in taking Kinder Morgan private and adopted the Knight name. To take advantage of its better-known brand, it reverted to Kinder Morgan in 2009.
